Before beginning his career in music education, Dr. Doke performed as a professional violinist with several orchestras around the world, including the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, la Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México in Toluca, and la Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico City. His performances took him to renowned performance venues such as Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, el Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Smetana Hall in Prague, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Stefaniensaal in Graz, Austria, and the International Mahler Festival in Dobbiaco, Italy. During his career as a performer, Dr. Doke had the privilege of sharing the stage with celebrated artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Isaac Stern, Midori, Joshua Bell, Julie Andrews, José Carreras, and Plácido Domingo.
While working as a music educator, Dr. Doke continued to perform as a violinist in the metropolitan Atlanta area. In 2007, he was featured as mandolin soloist with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for Mandolin. He also appeared as a violin soloist at the Georgia Music Educators Association State Conference in 2011 and 2013. His versatility also extends to alternative styles, having played fiddle and mandolin with country music legend Ray Price and with the Atlanta-based funk band, the Squirrelheads. He continues to enjoy performing as a freelance violinist and playing bluegrass fiddle and mandolin in jam sessions with friends.
